Options

The Discombobulator has lots of options so that you can set it up to work as you would like. This page provides a quick explanation of all the available options:

The 'File' menu

Select Race...: Lists some of the up-coming horse races.
Previous / Next Race: Step between horseraces.
Bets...: Opens a window showing your bets on the current event. These will include any bets made on the normal Betfair website.
All bets...: Opens a window showing all of the bets made with the Discombobulator.
Save bets...: Lets you save a record of your bets to a text file.
Find event...: Very important option for those using the Discombobulator for events other than horse racing. This is the only way to access other sports. Enter a search term (e.g. 'FTSE' or 'Chelsea') to search Betfair's entire selection of markets. This will show a list of matching events. Clicking on a name will move to that event. If there are lots of matches, not all will be shown. You will have to search for a more specific term (e.g. instead of searching for 'Tennis', try searching for a particular player's name).

Betfair Site

As well as the standard www.betfair.com site, Betfair can also be accessed from www2.betfair.com. Sometimes, if the main site is not working properly, www2 can prove more reliable. Only select 'www2' if you are having timeout problems (e.g. if the event name turns grey).

Refresh rate

How often to reload the odds offered. For horseracing, the refresh rate will automatically speed up as the start of the race nears.

Refresh rate (in-running)

For in-running markets, how often the odds will be reloaded. If you are watching a horse race in-running, the odds are automatically refreshed faster towards the end of the race.

Display Style

Plain: Simple, with no jockey silks.
Show Betfair silks: Use Betfair's jockey silks images.
Show alternative silks: Use silks from another site (slightly better quality than Betfair).
Condensed: Mini-view for events with lots of runners, in case the normal view doesn't fit on-screen.

Auto-advance

Useful when running the betting bot. When the current race finishes, Discombobulator will move on to the next race (or optionally, the next race at the same racecourse). This lets you leave the program running all day, betting on all horse races without any user intervention!

Profit taking

Controls how the automatically bet profit taking is calculated. If 'spread profit' is enabled, then the lay-off bets will be calculated to achieve an equal profit regardless of who wins the race. Otherwise, the lay-offs will be calculated to give you a 'free bet'. e.g. if you have backed one selection, then the bet will be laid off to give you a profit if that selection wins, but no loss if it loses.

Show all world races

If this is selected, horse races from outside UK/Ireland will be shown in the race listings.

Window always on top

(May not be available). Keeps the Discombobulator window above all the other windows on your desktop.
